MY THOUGHTS ON GOOD DESIGN.

Dieter my, and every other designer’s favorite designer established that design cannot be measured in a finite way, and he set about expressing the ten most important principles for what he considered was good design:

GOOD DESIGN IS INNOVATIVE
GOOD DESIGN MAKES A PRODUCT USEFUL
GOOD DESIGN IS AESTHETIC
GOOD DESIGN MAKES A PRODUCT UNDERSTANDABLE
GOOD DESIGN IS UNOBTRUSIVE
GOOD DESIGN IS HONEST
GOOD DESIGN IS LONG-LASTING
GOOD DESIGN IS THOROUGH DOWN TO THE LAST DETAIL
GOOD DESIGN IS ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY
GOOD DESIGN IS AS LITTLE DESIGN AS POSSIBLE………
I would go on to say that some of the best ART/DESIGN ( Visual Communication )
is quite literally an intentional accident…marginally delibrate. Not every successful effort was directly purposeful…so…. is it really any more than a happy accident? At this point habits form & creativity stops. And you learn to navigate these waters and then profess your brilliance. All this to say, a large part of the design world praises serendipity , and designers take credit for chance.
